Lead TAT instructor Virginia Martin had the opportunity to attend Fire Ops 101. The insight gained into the physical and phycological aspects of the fire service prove infinitely valuable in the continuing development of the Tactical Agility Training classes.

What is tactical agility?

Tactical Agility Training: Yoga Designed for First Responders

Omni Yoga Studio proudly welcomes and honors our local First Responders. We are a Firefighter-owned wellness center founded by Virginia Martin, Certified Yoga Instructor and Bryan Martin, Fire Captain for the City of Redmond.

Our mission is to serve our diverse South Sound community by providing a range of styles of yoga to fit the needs and goals of each individual. Within our various offerings, we have special training protocol classes designed to bring the benefits of traditional yoga to local first responders. The physical and neurological benefits of yoga are well documented by modern medical research to offer tactical and practical tools for processing stress, building resilience, and enhancing performance. By combining our training and experience of yoga with our understanding of the physical and neurological demands of a career as a first responder, we have developed an industry-focused class called Tactical Agility Training.

What's it all about?

Why "Tactical"?

Tactical is a term often used with first responders and military personnel alike. In working to accomplish a mission, an overall strategy must be employed. In order to realize that strategy, we must employ tactics to realize our strategy.

In yoga, our strategy is a long, healthy, injury-free lifestyle with minimal stress. In order to realize that strategy, we must take care of our bodies. Strength without flexibility leads to injury, intensity without decompression leads to stress. We've built Tactical Agility Training to provide balance to meet our strategic life goals.

What does Tactical Agility Training Consist of?

  • Physical drills to improve functional movement and mobility.
  • Tactical breathwork to manipulate stress responses.
  • Instilling a habit of heightened mental focus through discomfort.
  • Learning to self-induce Neurological Reset to calm the nervous system back to its baseline. This allows us to build resilience through adversity and counteract depletion.

The comradery, fellowship and friendly rivalry shared by first responders is an important part of the decompression process that happens throughout the course of each class. Make no mistake, this holistic functional fitness discipline is in fact yoga, just yoga with a twist.

First Responder and Military families receive our Hero 15% discount. We are honored to serve those who serve us.

meet your instructors

Tactical Agility Training classes are only taught by a select team of instructors who have specific training and experience working with first responders. This small team consists of instructors who have an in-depth knowledge of the unique demands that emergency work has on the body and nervous system. Our T.A.T. team of instructors also happen to be from first responder households, so these classes are both physically challenging, and lighthearted (often with a bit of the banter that might be expected from a room full of first responders).

I became a yoga instructor after yoga healed my long-term, debilitating back injury that was supposed to require spine-fusing surgery. My husband was by my side the whole way, from injury to health. He is a career firefighter, passionately dedicated to his job. I began to witness the career-specific stresses to the physical body and nervous system that first responders undergo routinely, as just part of the job. Naturally I gravitated towards using what I knew about yoga to support his longevity in the career that he loves. He began to join me in yoga and now has his own stories to tell.

. Now, I have the joy of sharing yoga with a community of friends here at Omni. I teach with heart and humility and it would be my honor to guide you through a class that leaves you feeling empowered and peaceful. Hope to see you on the mat soon!

My name is Keith, and I started my yoga journey in April 2021.  My journey began after reading about the transformative power of yoga in "The Body Keeps the Score." I embarked on a daily yoga practice in April 2021. Each mindful movement and breath became a doorway, not just to physical postures, but to a deeper understanding of myself. Yoga helped me reconnect with my body, manage stress, and find peace within.  And honestly, I have not missed a day since! That’s because I’ve witnessed firsthand the healing properties and benefits of yoga for myself and others.  Witnessing this transformation firsthand, it inspired me to become a yoga teacher.  I completed a 200-hour training in November 2022 eager to guide others on their own journeys to reconnect with themselves. Learning never stops. To further my understanding, I’m currently pursuing a degree in Kinesiology, which enables a person to be able to go deeper into movement and the body. With each practice we can reclaim control over our bodies and mind and build confidence in our inner resilience.   Whether you are seeking an understanding of yourself, a reconnection with your body, or just a workout, I encourage you to find a place on your mat and explore the healing power of connecting with your body.

My yoga journey began as a way to move my body, but along the way, I discovered it was also an exercise for my mind and soul. What started as a physical practice quickly became a path to deeper breath, balance, and resilience—both on and off the mat.

When I’m not guiding yoga classes, you’ll find me with my hands in the soil, tending to my garden, or caring for my backyard chickens. Nature is my greatest teacher, and I love exploring any trail I come across, always seeking new ways to connect with the world around me.

Through my teaching, I aim to share the gift of breath control, stability, and inner strength, helping others find presence and peace in movement. Whether you step onto the mat for strength, stillness, or something in between, I am joyed to be a part of your journey.

Jasmine Wright embarked on her yoga journey in 2014  while studying Dance at the University of Washington, where Ashtanga Yoga was apart of the curriculum. This practice helped heal a hamstring injury, solidifying her belief in yoga's restorative benefits. In 2019, she left her performing arts career and decided to pursue law enforcement, becoming an officer with the city of Lakewood. Her path to becoming a yoga teacher began during the 2020 pandemic. After deciding that law enforcement was not for her, she made the difficult decision to resign. Shortly after, she became a mother, while completing her teacher training online with Crystal Gray Yoga, appreciating the inclusive and healing approach emphasized by her instructor.

Jasmine's  background in the performing arts (with a BA in Dance and a Minor in Music) juxtaposed with her brief time as a police officer is what deeply informs her yoga teaching. She specializes in Slow-flow Vinyasa,  focusing on building heat with slow strength and allowing time to truly arrive in each posture. Jasmine’s students can expect a comfortable and trustworthy environment, with opportunities for both challenge and modification guided by her calm and adaptive presence. She is honored to be a new addition to Omni Yoga.

I feel a connection with my students, as I too am still practicing yoga. When students see me take classes, I hope they know that we are all still learning what our bodies can do given the right environment.  I know I have found a place to practice, teach and learn in a warm welcoming environment with no judgement.
